Campbell Soup Company has announced new science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of its overall environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy, as outlined in its 2022 Corporate Responsibility Report.
The company’s new science-based targets commit to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by fiscal 2030 from a fiscal 2020 base year, targets consistent with reductions required to keep global warming to 1.5°C. Campbell also has committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, as well as upstream transportation and distribution, 25% within the same time frame.

Campbell’s 2022 Corporate Responsibility Report, which was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, details the company’s measurable progress against the ESG goals for its fiscal 2021 operations, including:
- Improving the sustainability of Campbell’s packaging, with fully recyclable Pepperidge Farm signature paper bags and redesigned V8 multi-serve bottles to eliminate 2.5 million lb of plastic per year
- Transitioning 100% of the company’s palm oil supply to Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified sources
- Creating metrics to measure the nutritional performance, affordability, and accessibility of the company’s product portfolio
- Achieving the company’s goal to increase spending with diverse suppliers by 25%, two years ahead of schedule
