Conagra Brands has appointed veteran consumer packaged goods executive John Brase as President and CEO, effective June 1, 2026, succeeding longtime chief Sean Connolly.
Brase will also join the company’s board of directors, taking over from Connolly, who is stepping down May 31 after more than a decade leading the Chicago-based food manufacturer.
The leadership transition comes as Conagra positions itself for continued growth following a period of portfolio reshaping, brand investment and operational streamlining under Connolly. During his tenure, the company transformed into a “pure-play” branded food business and navigated major disruptions including the pandemic, inflation and supply chain challenges.
Brase brings more than 35 years of experience in the consumer goods sector. Most recently, he served as president and chief operating officer at The J.M. Smucker Co., where he oversaw retail, international and foodservice businesses along with sales, operations and supply chain functions. Earlier in his career, he spent roughly three decades at Procter & Gamble, ultimately leading its $6 billion North America Family Care business.
Conagra’s board cited Brase’s track record in brand building, portfolio management and operational execution as key factors in the appointment, emphasizing his ability to drive both top- and bottom-line performance.
In statements accompanying the announcement, Brase pointed to opportunities to accelerate revenue growth, expand margins and strengthen cash flow across Conagra’s portfolio of frozen, snack, and pantry brands.
