The RK Safety Hinge from process equipment manufacturer Readco Kurimoto, LLC, York, Pa., features stainless-steel construction with a sealed, waterproof design and smooth interior that permits installation on process equipment in food, nutrition, pharmaceutical, and other sanitary facilities.
Affixed to covers on mixers, retorts, pasteurizers, kettles, and other machinery, the sanitary RK Safety Hinge eases manual lifting by up to 80 percent when opening the cover to help reduce the risk of injuries and repetitive strains. When opened, the RK Safety Hinge locks the cover in the raised position with a built-in safety pin, and during closure, the ergonomic device helps to slow the descent for a safe return into position. Risk of pinch point accidents during closure is reduced without compromising the integrity of the seal during machine operation.
Suitable for washdown conditions, the RK Safety Hinge opens and closes using a proprietary spring mechanism that may be accessed for cleaning and operates without electricity or any other power source. The RK Safety Hinge accommodates a wide range of covers, hatches, ports, and other lids weighing up to 293 lbs. and may be customized to suit a wide range of cover dimensions, materials, process conditions, and other factors. The machine safety device is available in seven standard models and may be retrofit onto equipment currently in operation.
