Nestlé Canada has completed its over $50 million expansion project at its historic confectionery factory in Toronto
The factory, part of Ontario's manufacturing landscape for more than 100 years, now has greater capacity to support continued growth. According to Nestlé, it is the company's only certified peanut-free facility in North America.
The investment brings new physical production space, advanced manufacturing equipment, and expanded site utilities to the factory. A new flexible moulding line, designed for KitKat and Aero production, has also been installed. The factory also manufactures Smarties and Coffee Crisp.
“This factory has a proud legacy in Toronto, and it has always been at the heart of how we bring Canadians the brands they love,” says Chandra Kumar, president and CEO of Nestlé Canada. “This investment carries that momentum forward—as a commitment to Canadian manufacturing, to fostering innovation, and to building the next 100 years of great chocolate, right here in Canada.”
The project also redesigned the site layout, which Nestlé says reduces traffic disruption on Sterling Road for the surrounding community. The plant employs about 550 people and is hiring mechanical and electrical technicians.
